Polyester & tea staining

I am happy to report you can tea stain polyester. I tried it on a lace sample first & it worked. The final project was a white lace curtain that I tea stained & it came out just the right shade to match the rest of the bathroom. Nice when something happens that turns out well & surprises you.

Don't ya love it when a plan works. I love the look tea-dying gives. I'm glad it worked on the polyester

Thank you Beverly!! Yes I do :)

RE: Polyester & tea staining

On this subject... I would like to tea stain 2 new 3x5 white polyester flags to use outside my antique shop. Can this be successfully done? Is there something I need to do to "set" the tea stain? The flags will get wet from time to time and wind-whipped. After staining I would like to use fabric paint for my image and wording which I have done in the past with good results. Thanks for your help!

I'd double check to make sure the stain is permanent. The poly doesn't allow the stain to penetrate into the actual fiber and my experience is that it washes back out after a washing or two.
