The Color Run

Today was the Color Run 5K in Birmingham. DD#2 wanted to run, so we formed a team (Pot-O-Gold) and took the grands and off we went.

Here is their "before" picture.

You run through "color stations" where they throw dyed cornstarch at you. By the end of the run you are quite colorful. Usually this is a nice event, but we had a downpour this morning, everyone was soaked to the bone, the dye was clumpy and we were very colorful.

Usually the weather is dry and they have big blowers you run through to blow off most of the dye, but since it was wet that didn't work. I did remember to pack dry clothes and took a sheet to make a "changing room" in the van. The shirts are laid out in the grass drying. We are going to try and keep as much dye in them as we can so I set it before we laid them out. Sure hope the dye washes out of skin or we will be colorful for a long time.

OK, I set the color per their instructions with vinegar then heat. Then washed in cool water, and most of the color washed out. Oh well, we have our pictures. I do have some more of the dye (they gave us each a packet) and may try to put some of the color back in. But that can wait till I have more time to spend.

We had a great time, despite the long (over a mile) walk from the parking lot to the start (in the rain) and back. The boys are ready to do it again. I think I'll wait a while.

I'm glad you enjoyed my colorful family. Next year they will be in Tuscaloosa instead of Birmingham, but perhaps we can still manage to do it. I hope it doesn't rain again.
