Pineapple (or pinecone) ornament

Someone posted on the Conversations page looking for a pineapple quilted ornament. I'm not sure this is what they were looking for, but I found it and thought it was really cute. I've been making Prairie Points lately, but none this tiny!!! What a great way to use up some small scraps.

Has anyone made these? Or a different pineapple ornament pattern?

RE: Pineapple (or pinecone) ornament

Kate, our quilt guild had a short program on how to make these, but the instructions were a bit different from the one you found. I have made several and love them! People also seem to enjoy receiving them as gifts. The main differences were that we folded the small squares of fabric so there was a double layer of fabric making the piece with point, we attached them to the styrofoam balls using straight pins, and we used two different fabrics and alternated the rows by color. I took pictures, but can't find them right now to post them.
I don't know of a web site that has instructions for the way we made them or else I would share.

I've seen a folded star method of doing ornaments, but I haven't used it. Seems to me it was kind of complicated but very pretty.

Here's a link to the folded star ornament. Pretty!
