March blocks

With apologies to the Amish!

I have been playing with these blocks for some time trying to decide how best to use them. 34 blocks meant a very large quilt but I am not into biggies lately, so I made an extra block and came up with a 3x5 and a 4x5.

Then I thought they needed some sashing to frame each block and to make the quilts a touch bigger. Next dilemma! What colour? I didn't have enough of any one colour nor did I have any black. But wait! What about that striped fabric I bought a few years ago with the plan to use it as a bias binding on some quilt or other. When I dug it out, I was pleasantly surprised to see that every colour in the stripe was found somewhere in the blocks and every other colour was black. Serendipity??

So here are the tops waiting for suitable backing fabric.

This is the stripe. It doesn't show up on the pics. Each stripe is approx. 1.4 in wide and every colour can be found in the blocks somewhere. I was so happy when I found it in my stash.

That should be 1/4 in. wide. My fingers are not behaving today.

I see why you would have bought it for bias binding.....I love using stripes for bias binding too!

Serendipity indeed! Great quilts! Isn't it amazing how sometimes we just 'happen' to have just the right fabric to make a top result in remarks like 'WOW'!?!

I love the stripe!!!! I see why you bought it. The colors are perfect and added just the right amount of pizazz to those blocks. Great placement of colors in both quilts.

The stripe is perfect and I really like the use of dark cornerstones throughout the quilts. They do a nice job of echoing the dark squares in the blocks.
