Since I am not so good at FMQ wouldn't it be nice to have a crutch. Maybe an iron on-tear away pattern. Has anyone run across someting like this and where?

I use the golden thread paper in Sharon's second link. You can make any design you wish, as long as you wish. On the Fall quilt I just posted, I made the maple leaves for the pieced blocks by stacking 8 pieces of paper and stapling them. Then I placed my pattern on top and stitched through it without a needle. This created my pattern. For my borders, I cut my paper the right length and then traced onto it my pattern using a pencil. One thing I've learned: Don't EVER use Sharpie markers!! THe color can transfer to your white fabric!

I found it. Thank you ladies, you all are really sharp. This new machine is so much fun, I hope I don't drive you all crazy. N

I don't think anyone on this forum will EVER get tired of questions! Jennifer, thanks for the tip about the sharpies! I haven't used the paper yet but I have some and I can just see me using a sharpie. Kate

Jennifer, I'm not trying to be a pain, I really don't understand. Do you mean you sewed through without thread, how do you sew without a needle?
RE: machine quilting pattern

Sorry, Bev. Yes, I sewed without thread. The needle is critical to make holes in the paper LOL !

How clever! You ladies are one bunch of smart cookies............

I didn't even know this existed!! I can see where this would be a great tool to learn how to quilt free motion patterns, like feathers. I want to learn those, but am really nervous about them. This would be a great way to get a feel for them and eventually do them without a pattern or tracing them onto fabric. Love it!!! Robbi
