A fortunate side trip

OK, so I had a couple extra hours today and decided to hop in the buggy and drive into town to look for a belt for my work jeans. Obvious place to try first, since it's not a fashion statement is our local Goodwill. Nope.........I'm not a heavy person, but every belt they had was too small or too fancy. So, out of habit, I scope out the bins and sheets for large pieces of cotton. There is this heavy roll of brown cotton hiding under piles of ugly polyester double knit and I grabs it. Then hanging on a hanger with the blankets is the largish piece of ???? I figure I could use to bat a utility quilt or pad a foot locker top. I gets it home and inspects it and low and behold the 'blanket' is a fine quality, never-used piece of cotton quilt batting. LOL Queen sized and the brown wad of material is eight yards of 45" never used cotton. Somebody cleaned out a quiting stash. Vee hit the jackpot as my next quilt is one in a brown/tan oriental and alls I needed in the way of material was the batting and the backing. I got it all for less than three dollars. I am cooking supper, but this one I was bursting to share.

Oh, AWESOME find Calliope!!

I have a Goodwill dropoff place here, but they only sell books and DVD's. They will take almost anything, but ship most of it on to other venues.

The closest other store (until next month) is 25 miles away, and nowhere near any other shopping I would do. I look forward to the newer retail outlet to open up - it's only 4 miles away.

That was waiting there just for you! Amazing what a smile such a serendipitous find can put on your face.
Wonderful story after all the drama and sadness of the past week.

Good for you. My first stash was built up from pieces from a local thrift store. I have lots now so don't bring things home much anymore. But, it got me started and cost very little. It's good to keep your eyes open. Congratulations. And, those pieces really needed a good home where they'd be appreciated.

Great find! It is always nice to find something perfect for a project.
I don't thrift shop -- I do donate -- so maybe I am helping to make someone's day brighter when they find my "stuff". We have a freecycle table at our Guild meetings, and I always feel really good when I find a fat quarter or a few strips of fabric I think I will use.
