Batiks in a Pick-up Truck?

I had a great time at the Lancaster PA quilt show, although I have to admit there weren't as many quilts as I expected. Not a huge show, but what was there was beautiful. Of course, it's fun to spend a day with friends, too!

Afterwards, we drove another 20 miles to a small Pennsylvania town known for its Amish community and fabric stores.

That's where we saw this:

$4.98 a yard for batiks?!?!? You can imagine how quickly we pulled in here! We all found some great fabrics. I don't have a plan yet for the ones I bought but I'm sure I'll think of something! After I got home I realized I should have bought a LOT of yardage of one so I could use it for a big quilt backing. I think I was just overwhelmed with the options while I was there.

My jealousy is enormous!!

This never happens here, even with the plethora of old trucks, LOL.

That's quite a novel display case. What a great deal. Were you able to buy small yardages, or did you have to buy at least a yard of each? How fun. Lois

No limits on size of the cut; no 1 yard minimum. I bought 1/2 yard of a couple, full yards of a couple and 2 yards of one. At this price I should have let myself get crazier; still kicking myself for not getting 6 yards of one!
(Marsha, you smart smart woman! I bet you are not regretting your purchases at all.)

I.Am.Not!! regretting my purchases at all! I am regretting not buying more! I really should have gotten some of the aquas & blues.......It was getting late....imagine the damage we could have done if we had gone there first-or went to more than one truck~lol.

When we go to Mary Jo's we can buy wide batik backing. I bought alot last year! I only have some of one left.

Its not just a retreat, Sharon, its a shopping trip too! Plenty of room in the CRV for some yardage. :~))

When we moved here from the suburbs, I was shocked that within the first month a pickup truck pulled up trying to sell me meat (YES, MEAT!!!) from a cooler in the back. I told the guy I won't even buy meat from a Walmart much less from the back of a pickup truck - leave and don't come back. But if one pulled up with a truckload of batiks or any cotton fabrics at those prices, I would offer them a lawn chair and a glass of iced tea and tell them to get real comfortable.

Rita, I'm with you on that one!!! We've had the same thing happen. Don't forget to call your friends when that truck of Batiks shows up! (grin)
