I'm taking a workshop at my guild's Quilt-In in March which will be doing this pattern in a 50" diameter circle. I decided to try it out early, using striped fabrics and a smaller ruler.

This one comes out about 30" in diameter. I'm still working out what to do with the center circle. Leaving it all yellow is too much open space for my eye. I've tried a few other things, but have not come up with anything pleasing yet.

DH thinks I should piece another star of the yellow/blue fabrics, but I'm not sure how to pull that off. He may draw something up for me and I'll see how I might piece it. Another thought is to do an all yellow center, and then quilt using a dark blue thread in the design of concentric stars.

It's been (design) walled (ie. tabled) so I can look at it and let the juices flow for awhile. Something will come eventually.

Now, I have to prepare the fabric for the larger one to be used in a few weeks.......

Very pretty! I think your thread stars sounds like it would work well.

How do you plan to use the completed quilt?

BEE, I think it'll end up on a wall somewhere, maybe it a child's room since I'm running out of space elsewhere! lol

It would be perfect for a candle or round table, but I don't have either of those around...

Love your bright quilts, but I think there is just a bit too much yellow in the center. Maybe a smaller circle, or a smaller collection of the 3D boxes?

I agree with the 'too much yellow'. I first tried a series of smaller circles in a variety of colors/orders, but they looked too much like eyeballs! That's why we're trying to come up with another plan.

I'd like to continue the 3-D image as if you're looking down a tunnel. Mike has an idea, but I'm not sure how I can piece it. That's why I was thinking of quilting concentric stars, hoping to add color but still keeping it easy(er). Not sure if it'll be enough color though.

This whole yellow center is only about 9" in diameter..

Wow!

You could do a bluework embroidery design in the yellow center...or a solid blue applique.

Your design work is really impressive and I do like the idea of embroidery in the center, or perhaps a modern design applique in the center...a star of some kind?? I do agree w/ everyone that the yellow center is too much...this is another one for the retreat quilt show...

Pretty fabrics & color. I also dislike the egg yoke center -- at 9", it is about 1/3 of the circle -- I think you should try a dark color to make it recede. I am anxious to see what your hubby designs for you.
