| Magothyrivergirl~ Here you go...for your viewing pleasure!
At the moment, the wedges are just laid out. I needed to figure out what color I wanted the points in the center to be. I've decided on the brown. Also needed to decide what color the outer-most pieces would be. I've decided on the cream background.
Originally, my plan was to use a circular motif from this printed fabric for the center circle. I'm not happy with how this looks. Though I love the print, it seems to get lost in the center. There's not a lot of the brown in the print either.
So I've designed a center 'mariners compass' in these fabrics. I've got to work on that still. The entire design will have a brown circle around it, then corners. Still a ways to go... |

| Yes - it certainly is a "viewing pleasure". Wow oh wow! Beautiful colors! A Mariner's Compass in the center is a great idea, more work, but it will make a statement. How big is the center area where it needs to go? I have a library book by M'Liss Rae Hawley "Mariner's Medallion Quilts" - she has various sizes of the MC block used in a variety of quilts, wallhangings and clothing. At first I did not care for her book and put it aside. It is due, so I thought I would review it again before returning it; I only studied the MC block. Her stuff is too cutesty for my tastes and that was keeping me from focusing on the core of the book - the MC. Each of her blocks has a circle appliqued center. Maybe you can use the center of that fabric for the center of a MC block. Since I have MC on the brain, I really think using the MC block will make your bb quilt spectacular. Brown is going to make the other colors jump. Thanks so much for posting the pic. I should have thought about how much extra work it was for you to lay it out before I asked you to post a pic:) I appreciate it. Very inspirational for me as a next long term PP project. It is so helpful to see the projects at various stages. |

| Magothy~Don't worry about the picture. I already had it laid out so I could see what colors I needed where. The center will be 14" with a 2" brown circle around it. This quilt is where I got the idea for the center. It's a kaleidescope use of the fabric to make the center star. I am going to try to use the fabric I have and fussy cut to get the same look. The fancy fabric is where I picked all the colors from, so I think I have to use it somewhere. I also plan to use the printed fabric for the four corners as well. We'll see how it all works out. |

| I love the fancy fabric - I think your idea is going to work and and fussy cutting will take some thought and careful planning. The center did not look that big - I am glad I asked about the size... Another thought is a stack n whack method /block to get the kaleidoscope effect around that circle in your focus fabric. It takes alot of fabric repeats (yardage). This is going to be so beautiful. |

| That's lovely. Was it all paper pieced? I see many designs on that web site but it doesn't talk much about how they're made. |
RE: My bella bella project
| | |
| Yes, Linda. These are all paper pieced. She uses freezer paper templates for all the small pieces as well as the 'sashings'. Very easy directions. Many have appliques, but since that's not my thing, I'm going with a fancier fabric for the inserts. And don't you know, I had a whole different print fabric (from the same line) picked out for the center...Didn't need to recreate that wheel! Well, the compass should look much more impressive! lol |

| Wonderful, Jennifer! Looks great and the MC will be so dramatic! TFS, Gwen |

Truly lovily. Is this to be a quilt, table top or a throw? How ever it is used it is beautiful and the MC will be perfect for the center. TFS Jayne |

Very beautiful! How many wedges are there? How large it the finished top? Love your work. Karlene |
RE: My bella bella project
| | |
| Karlene~ There are 40 wedges. Each is about 24" long unfinished. I think the overall quilt will be roughly 75" square? |

| Wow, I really like it. It is so nice to see something that captures the imagination, you know? How long did the wedges take you? I want to do a giant dahlia 'someday' and have a pattern that makes it look do-able. Can't wait to see your center! |

| I've been working on the wedges off and on for months. Now that they are done, things are going together pretty quick. The fussy cutting for center and corners will take some planning though. |

| Jennifer, I have the Bella Bella Quilts book, given to me by my son, LOL. He has a greater view of my talents than I do! I'm collecting fabrics, and I will try it at some point. |

| So far, it's really not hard. It's time consuming, and you have to be comfortable with paper piecing, but not hard. It does require curved piecing, but that's manageable in smaller sections. I have the wedges into 3 quarters now...making progress. |
