adding on for borders

Do I understand this right if I am going to add 2 pieces of fabric to make a quilt 3 inch border I should butt them together and not have them diagonal, something to do with them curling etc. Thanks for your advice.

If I don't have a piece large enough for the whole length of the border I always connect them diagonally. I think it makes the connection less visible. I don't recall having any problems with curling. Kate |

I always join border strips with a diagonal seam. It's less noticeable, and there are no problems with curling.

I don't bother with the diagonal seam and never have a problem either.

I go by what visually looks the most pleasing for the quilt I am working on. Some quilts you do need to "hide the seam" and go diagonal because it will take away from the look of the entire finished quilt. Others it only adds interest.

That's true and it's a good point! If it's a pieced border with multiple fabrics, then I wouldn't hesitate to use a straight cut instead of a diagonal.
