Karlene, pineapple blocks are built out from the center, too. They are kind of like on-point log cabins.

There are also many variations of log cabin using different width logs and such. Check out Judy Martin's website - she has a whole book of log cabin variations. Also check out George Siciliano's website - he makes amazing miniatures and I think all of his designs are log cabin variations.

I've seen/heard of him before and certainly admired his work! I just had to buy a kit, with the hopes of doing it in a few weeks at my guild's all day quilt-in. Maybe with 10 dedicated hours of sewing I might accomplish something!

The black/white/red version reminded me a bit of Lover's Knot, done by Eleanor Burns. I have used that pattern 3 times and like it a lot.

You could always do diamond log cabin blocks. Same concept, different shape

Or crumb blocks, or crazy blocks.

Throw in the spiderweb block too, eye of God and trip around the world. I've done all of those in addition to the log cabins and crazy quilts.
