Candle Mats

Does anyone know where a pattern is for a candle mat, where the center points go around the base of the candle? I've seen a pic, but just don't see how the triangles are sewn without leaving a seam. I'm very visual, & need instructions for most sewing. TIA

I have made a couple of the octagons but that particular pattern (Prairie Star Candle Mat) is copyrighted, I put a picture of one in the gallery last year before Christmas. To make the points, start with a square, fold in half wrong sides together, take each end of folded top edge and bring to the bottom center.... all raw edges are on the bottom and sew to the base with the fold on top. I think there might be a square pattern somewhere that isn't copyrighted. I'm not very good at writing instructions so if you have questions, I'll try to answer them.

Think I'll need to get a pattern. Seems like I can't imagine things without. Thanks for the help.
