need help with serger

Just got a serger a few months ago, but have only taken the basics class yet. I want to do a rolled hem, and my manual says to use "the spreader". What is the purpose of the spreader. It doesn't explain what it does. Thanks for any help.

Sorry, I don't have a clue. I haven't used (or even seen) my serger in over 7 years! Loaned it out and there it is. I didn't use it anyway.

Just did a google on it....maybe this will make sense to you. "A "spreader" (sometimes called a "converter") blocks the eye of the upper looper.."

maybe posting this question on the sewing forum might get more responses for you. They're sure to use their sergers more than quilters.

That sewing forum is as close to dead as it can get without being totally dead.Guess you could say it's in a Coma stage!!! LOL,LOL

Haven't had any responses on the sewing forum either. Guess I'll have to wait for the next class which isn't until next month sometime. Or since I know the instructor personally, I could ask her ahead of time.
