We used to make them every year when our kids were little. Started out with graham cracker houses then progressed to making our own gingerbread for the houses...always had to make 2! I miss those days!

Lovely gingerbread house & great that it was a surprise. We had a Swedish Exchange student years ago and she made one for us at Christmas. It was very hard to get the pieces to stick together, since our Christmas is in Summer. She was used to a northern Winter Christmas! But it tasted good.

Linda, that is lovely and the pictures are great. I bought one of those kits that they sell in the supermarket and put it together with a friend, but it was the funniest looking gingerbread house you can imagine :o) Thanks for sharing!

Your house is adorable. One year for Christmas, I made the sides and roofs, one house for each small child, and paired them with a big cousin to decorate. It was one of the best activities over the years. The little ones loved the attention from the big guys.

Another tradition we started for the cousins was that you had to hug and thank whoever gave you a gift. We had some crazy hugs, especially among the guys. But again, the little ones loved being picked up and swung around.
