I might be wrong, but I'd be very hesitant to mix different materials in any quilt. Is there enough of the sweatshirts there to make one or two quilts? Also is there a lot of embellishments on them such as sequins, beads, fabric paint, etc.? That could cause a problem both in the construction and in the washing/maintenance of the quilts. As for the sweaters, you know you can make adorable throw pillow covers with them if you look on the internet you can find videos for it. If there are several of them you could make one for each family member.

That's an interesting idea. Many of us have made quilts from t-shirt images but I don't think I've seen one made from sweatshirts or sweaters. I went to Google Images after I read your question and searched for "sweater quilts"; turns out there are many, many pictures of sweater quilts. Although you could use a variety of square sizes and put them together like a puzzle, I think it would be easier if you pick a size and cut out pieces that size. 12" or 14" works well with t-shirts because the images on the front are generally large. For patterned sweaters without an image, you could probably cut pieces as small as 6". Be sure to stitch around the edges of each piece so it doesn't unravel before you have a chance to add it to the quilt!

I like the outcome. The flannel shirt design is really intriguing. It will be hard for the recipient to decide which side to use ;-)
