Can I apply a dark semi-transparent stain over new light stain?

| I spent the last week stripping, "cleaning and brightening", and sanding my old oil deck stain off my deck. I then applied the Behr water-based premium semi-transparent stain yesterday in a color that was supposed to be light brown but looks like toothpaste. No joke:
I need to darken it but do not want to go through all the trouble of stripping it all over again. And I can't apply anything to it for at least another week because we have rain and snow coming in tonight and through the weekend. So when I am able to get back to it next week, would I just be able to give it a light sanding and apply a darker coat of water-based semi-transparent stain? I know another coat is going to make it look more opaque which is the price I am willing to pay to avoid stripping it again. Or should I go with an opaque deck stain over the light colored semi-transparent?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've googled and googled and can't seem to find an answer to my problem. |

| I'm also wondering if I can use a different brand such as Sherwin Williams DECKSCAPES™ water-based semi-transparent over the Behr if I sand down the Behr a little. Or do I need to stick with a Behr product to fix this mess? I live in Colorado, so the lighter and less opaque the better, but not *this* light. |
