Removing Semi-Transparent Cedar Stain

| My husbands paint sprayer did not do our deck justice. We have dark spots and drips, how can we remove and start over? We were told we could sand it. It has been down for 2 weeks.
Help we have 1/2 deck stained need help asap. |
