Cover new unstained porch floor with plastic for the winter?

I recently had a new tongue and groove clear spruce floor installed on my enclosed porch but now it is too cold to stain it. The porch has 3 foot walls on the two "open" sides and doesn't drain because there are no gaps between the boards. When water blows in during a storm it just sits in a puddle and I am afraid the boards will absorb the water and warp. Should I cover the entire floor with heavy duty plastic to keep off the rain/snow until I can stain in the spring? Is it o.k to walk on the raw boards to get to my front door or should I put down some indoor/outdoor carpet to prevent stains? I am planning on sanding before staining. Thanks for your help, E.
