Recommendations sealing mahogany decking

Just installed 1 x 4 mahogany decking on exterior porches. Can anyone suggest what would be good ways to finish it.... stain, tung oil, etc. The decks are about 20 inches off the ground. We are in southeastern Massachusetts where there is salt water in the air. I've searched this forum, but didn't really find a definitive answer. Thanks

RE: Recommendations sealing mahogany decking

Well, my favorite wood. Thru the years I experimented with various mahogany finishes for porch floors. Got many different points of view from diferent painters here in North Jersey, but all seem to agree that oil base is the way to go.
When we floor a porch with mahogany we pre-finish each piece - top , bottom and all edges before we install them with a mix of oil and 20 % thinner to really get it to soak into the mahogany - a real tight grain.
After installation, we apply one to two additional coats straight from the can, no thinning.
I've been using this technique for many years and am pleased with the results.

Even if applying a color, we do the same steps as clear oil (satin, semi-gloss and gloss with sand)

Good Luck.
