Disposing of PT wood

Posted by weedyacres (My Page) on

What's the "approved" way to dispose of leftover PT wood scraps? I've googled around and most references talk about CCA and not to burn it. Our leftovers are ACQ. Is it ok to put it in the landfill? Do I need to wait until household hazardous waste day so it gets haz waste treatment?

Call your local landfill. Ours has an area where you can drop off wood that has been treated, ( p.t., stained, painted, etc). It is seperated from non-sealed woods and dealt with seperately.

Burning and/or burying are just fine now - all the arsenic has been removed from PT by law beginning in 2003. If your wood is older than that, then sierraeast is correct!

Only in PT intended to be sold for residential use. Chromated copper arsenate (CCA) treated wood is still available for other uses. Since no license is required to buy it down at the farm store, for example, it can still end up in residential use.

Some landfills accept CCA treated wood in regular garbage, as does ours.
