So John - how do you clean a deck????? I have a couple of days as their pressure washer broke down. Just as a trial, I scrubbed one step board with a hand brush and VERY diluted bleach. It looked great wet and today doesn't look so great. How can I get the original red color back?

oxalic acid should do it. Try an area, if not you may need a mils stripper followed by the oxalic acid.

I have used the products from Sunbrite and found them to work exceptionally well $16. for the brightner (oxalic acid)

Hey John, I haven't been by in a while.

I am in the process of cleaning my 3-4 year old ipe/garapa deck. Oh my gosh.
Hardi Plank install starts in two weeks.

I see that you never use a pressure washer.
I have the oxalic acid.
Is scrubbing the dirt the only safe way to clean?

Deck is great - the local architect saw it a few weeks ago, he asked where I got those ideas (woods etc).
He said he wished he had a deck like that.
I told him I got the ideas from some bike riding good ole boy on gardenweb.com
