Ipe Deck - Hidden Fasteners

Posted by dbart (My Page) on

I am going to be building an Ipe deck. I haven't totally decided if I am going with fasteners or top screw/plug. I know not everyone is a fan of hidden fasteners, but I do have a question about them. Is there any advantage to using a clip that rests under the decking and above the joist? I see there are several on the market that are like this (Mantis Clip, FastenMaster IQ). Is there an advantage to not having the Ipe touch the PT joist? Would this cause any problems? Would this prevent any problems?

Thanks!
dbart

RE: Ipe Deck - Hidden Fasteners

Hi

I have constructed my own decking with Ipe using the IPE CLIP Extreme

Ipe will move during the year even when using strong fixings like these

If I was to construct another deck with ipe I would use the Screw plug method

I would recommend that you buy or hire a bow wrench as it will help no end
