I just got some I'll be intalling on my concrete porch adjacent to the deck I just built. I needed a way to continue the railing onto the porch and these seemed like the best post anchors I could find.

My posts are cumaru so it's probably a little more of a challenge installing them then if they were softwood.

Just a couple helpful tips for you guys about Cumaru. Cumaru,Ipe and even Trex are very dense material and screwing, cutting or pounding nails into this wood requires pre drilling.

No two ways about it. But this kind of wood is way stronger than cedar or redwood in the end. The trick is to use a hole saw twice to get the cut deeper so you don't have to pound the anchor into as much uncut wood.

After the first pass with the hole saw, use a Forstner bit and remove about an inch of wood. Then use the hole saw one more time. The saw will cut deeper and tube will go in further before bottoming out. Then just pound it in the last 1/4" or 1/2".

That's basically what I did when I did my posts. It was so hard to pound the post anchor tube into the post I may not have even gone in 1/4". To make it go in a little easier I lubed the hole with polyeurathane glue. Figured it would help give a little extra hold to. Definately need to predrill - if you don't you will snap off the lag screws when going into cumaru/ipe.

So far so good with the anchors. Only been instaleld about 6 months but seem sturdy and no corrosion.
