Ipe stairs

On a set of deck stairs, I'm using 3/4" thick ipe for the treads and risers. Do you butt the riser tightly under the front of the tread above or do you leave a space? A snug riser would seem more sturdy, but I'm concerned about buckling caused by expansion from weathering. Thanks for any feedback.

I always leave at least a 1/4'' and snug up the riser to the botom of the tread. There is a big differance building outside compaired to inside.
