Footprints under the stain

Yesterday a carpenter stained my brand new redwood deck with Behr transparent weather proofing Redwood No. 502 even after I had told him I wanted semitransparent oil stain for uv protection. What's worse is I discovered too late that he did absolutely no prep work before applying the stain -- he didn't even bother to sweep so the stain was applied over numerous dirty footprints in one section. I don't know how someone who has been a carpenter for over 20 years could do that. Anyway, the carpenter can't come back for two more weeks, so I thought of having a handyman fix this except he's not knowledgeable about staining decks. What would be the best way to remove the footprints -- by sanding or some kind of deck stain remover? The deck is made of heart B redwood. Would applying a semitransparent oil stain as a second coat cover the footprints? Any recommendations as to which brand of stain or remover to use? Thank you for any help you can provide.
