How much of a gap between wood post and gate at latch side

I just had a cedar fence installed, board-on-board style. There is roughly a 1-1/2" gap between the left edge of the gate and the adjacent post. That seems extraordinarily wide to me, and it became more apparent when I installed a hook/eye to prevent accidental openings. Someone can easily slide their hand through and flip the hook out of the eye. Convenient maybe, but desirable not so much.

What is the professional tolerance for this gap? The hinge side is nearly flush. I haven't paid the 50% balance due yet, in case there are touch-up issues. If this is within reason I'll let it go but if it's way out of the typical range I'll see what they can do.

Thanks!

I'd think a 1/2" would be far more reasonable.
