We are designing an outdoor kitchen and the current plan includes a granite countertop. However, we were cautioned that they can get blistering hot on a hot sunny day. We may end up doing a pergola over the kitchen which might help a bit, but of course pergolas do let sunlight down between the slats.

Is there a type of granite or a different material (ie cement) which functions well for an outdoor kitchen and won't get so hot? Would lighter granites make a big difference from darker granites?
