| Our pergola will be 10' wide by 16' long. The question is: How do I calculate the column size? The plan calls for six total columns. Three on each of the 16' legs equalling an 8' span between each column. I think architechural 6x6's will do the trick. My wife feels the 6x6 are too bulky looking, so.....can 4x4 or 5x5 be substituted?
