5/4 or 2" cedar decking?

I am in the process of re skinning a 20 year old deck. The skelaton is sound--It was originally 2"X 6" decking
joist are 16"OC
Is the 5/4 cedar board adequate versus 2" ? My carpenter is questioning the durability of the 5/4" material. When I originally had this deck built I don't think that the 5/4 material even existed.

Hundreds of thousands of decks are built every year with 5/4 decking as a matter of fact the is predominantly what it is milled for as well as graded for (premium decking). As long as you have 16" o.c. you have no worries.
