post planning for 15 x 20 attached pergola

20' wide x 15' long. 20 width will be attached to an existing Cabana. Cabana is finished in stucco and is 20 x 16 sitting on a post-tension slab - very sturdy cabana.

I will run the rafters 15' off of the Cabana. Current plan is to have pavers installed under the cabana and 17' out underneath where this 20' x 15' Pergola will be.

I live in Arizona - no frost line, but do have the occassional monsoon weather in July / August - at times winds up to 38mph in the bad monsoons.

Will be using Red Cedar 6x6 posts.

What is the best way to set these? I hear setting the posts IN concrete is not a good idea; rotting. If I'm going to set the posts on footers, what diameter footer should I plan for and how deep?

Would it be bad for the top of the footing to reside below the paver grade so the post has a buried look under the pavers and I can install the pavers flush around the post?

Thank yoU!
