I'm getting opposing views if I can sand my new massarantuba deck before staining. Messner's says to allow 6-8 w aging first to allow better stain absorption. Sanding would seem to remove the weathered wood for a brighter look but would that remove the benefit to the stain? I was wondering if any one sanded their new deck and then immediately stained without incident?

I did with my garapa deck. If you stain over weathered wood it won't look very nice. You need to clean it up first.

Thanks Weedyacres. I just sanded the deck this weekend and plan to stain in 2 weeks. I'll probably give it a light sanding before I do.
