Window Well Covers

I have two semi-circled window wells which are masonry, covered with natural rock for which I want to construct custom covers that will last much longer than the plastic ones. The sizes are approximately 50.25 inches across the back (measuring from the outside edge, 22.5 inches from back to the front outside edge and they cannot be taller than 12 inches. I would like to be able to open or remove the covers to allow air circulation. Anyone know how to do this? I am open to suggestions.

Couldn't something be constructed from canvas and aluminum rods? I can't give specifics, just can offer construction materials since I'm a DIY of sorts.

I am considering buiding a wooden frame on which I will attach cut plexiglass with hinges. Any ideas on how to produce the semicircle frame to fit the window well with a 5 to one slope to allow the plexiglass to shed water?
