Adding on to existing patio

Has anyone on these forums added on to an existing patio slab? More specifically, with a different material? I'm thinking of adding on with pavers or flagstone to one side and a slightly raised wooden deck to the other. I'm just having a little trouble visualizing and worried that it might look too "pieced together." If you have done something like this or know of any pictures of something similar, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I believe what you are thinking can be done and will look finished. Ititially is may look "added" but time will soften the difference.

Our patio is brick paver but the retaining wall is of concrete block. As you can imagine when new there was a distinctive difference but after a few years not too much. And our egress porch is a deck but we stained it white.

Here are photos which may help your vision. Hope this helps.
