Connecting stringer to deck

I'd like to add stairs to my deck. It would run parallel to the joists. I would prefer to use notched stringers and for the first step to drop right off the deck rather than the top tread being an extension of the deck.

The linked Simpson connector does exactly what I want, but it requires a minimum 2x10 rim joist and mine is 2x8.

One thought I had was to bring the top of the stringer under the deck, i.e. the top rise backs up to the rim joist and then I sister the stringer to a joist. My concern with this is the connection to the joist: I'm not aware of a connector that would accomplish this and I'm worried about through bolts compromising the structural integrity of the stringer.

Any suggestions other than changing over to solid stringers?

TIA!
