On a new PT wood deck that is mostly shaded would you use oil or a water based stain/sealer? I read somewhere that oil should be avoided in the shade but I don't know the reasoning for this.

Also, I know that TWP has been recommended by many on here but it is something that must be ordered as it is not available locally in NC. Is there a build coat type stain that is comparable that can be purchased locally?
