I will be replacing the deck boards in the next few weeks on a 12x 18 deck that is located on the north side of our house and I am looking for insight on material and vendors.

While lots of discussion seems to focus on the staining, what are the various hardwoods that should be considered and is there a correlation between price and quality? My neighbor has used Ipe and let it weather to grey so I am familiar with how it looks and helped with installation.

Since then I have seen various other hardwoods mentioned on the internet but not a straight comparison between Ipe, Cuamra, Garapa and others. What are the thoughts?

Also what are suggestions on where to purchase as I am in the Detroit Michigan area.
