Finish ceiling under DuraDeck

Our 10 year old house has two decks. The top deck is finished with plywood and DuraDeck (vinyl water proofing). This results in a dry area underneath. However, previous owner elected to finish off the ceiling below DuraDeck by closing it off with pine planks. Looks nice, but no air vents. I pulled a few boards off and it is dry under there. Should I cut a vent into each joist cavity or leave it alone. I worry that sooner or later the deck may leak and water accumulate above the pine ceiling and mold. I like the look but am pondering removing the pine and putting up soffit but I don't think it will look as nice. Help :)
