What's involved in replacing porch columns?

Circus Peanut

I've got a small 1923 bungalow with the original wood porch columns. They are slowly rotting out with little way to fix/repair them for the umpteenth time, and I'd like to replace them if possible. There are 4 c. 12" round columns, and we'd use wood again to maintain the historic appropriateness.

We have a dormered hip roof that ends over the porch, so it's integral and not an add-on.

This is not my house, but the exact same build:

I'm assuming the porch will need to be jacked/supported while the switchout is made.

Has anyone done this recently and can offer any tips on procedure and the various costs and trades involved? I'm on the far Northeast coast.
