Help with Deck Lighting

We will be replacing our deck (wood) with either Correct Deck or Timbertech XLM. My hope is to also have the top of the railing be made of the deck material. We will have several posts but the entire railing will have a flat top. I currently have no lights but understand they are now required by code, at least for the stairs. Questions: do the stairs need a light for each step or is every other step ok? I'm also thinking of putting lights on the corners of the deck and using lights that aim down. Is this a bad choice? Should I put a light on each post - especially where I have a long stretch of railing? Are brass fixtures really needed rather than powder coated aluminum? I live in Minnesota so weather is an issue. TIA.
