Pre-Soaking/Priming Front porch tounge & groove BEFORE install?

I tried to find my own thread that someone posted on about this, but I must not be looking in the right place!

We started planning for our porch to be installed last fall, but since the full-house paint job took so long, this got put on the back burner.

Since the house is 1870's(ish), we think we want to go with a 3/4" Fir for the floorboards. But someone mentioned getting the fir, and then "soaking" it in primer or something before installation.

Does this sound right? And if so, how do you do it logistically? What product?
