Why was the screened porch built? Do you live in an area where it's difficult to sit outside because of mosquitoes and bugs? If so, then you may want to consider leaving the porch in place and giving it a facelift. I would paint all the wood white to give it a brighter more open look and I'd also replace the screen door and rebuild or paint the step.

On our last home we had a deck that when we looked at the house prior to buying we loved. turned out that winter was about the only time you could use the deck due to various and assorted bugs, most notably mosquitos. Built a screened in porch and it was the best room in the house and was a major selling feature for the new buyer. I think you will be sorry you did this. I think I'd pull a few screens off the porch and sit outside in the lat afternoon early evening and see how long you can do it without being carried off to some mosquitos den.
