 o
butyl tape to protect top of joists???

I'm about to pull off my old PT deck and replace with massarandtuba. A DIY magazine I read recommended covering the tops of the joists with butyl tape to minimize standing water damage over the years. Could this be a good idea since the nail holes and damage from the demo might leave depressions that could hold water? Otherwise the joist tops look fine from where I pulled it up. Anyone have an opinion?

I was going to have the demo done and then take a couple of weeks to put in new wiring for lights and see if anything needs to be repaired or improved. I was told to be sure the board attached to the house is properly flashed. Anyone have a site that shows what proper flashing looks like?
