Polycarbonate roof on screened porch?

Hi everyone,

We're building a screened porch on the north side of our house, and are thinking about putting a polycarbonate roof on it to allow more light in. Can anyone tell me what thickness it should be? Is 8mm thick enough, or should we go for 16mm? (FWIW, we live in suburban MD, and the roof pitch is 3/12)

Also, are there any brands you'd recommend or warn against? Lexan? Polygal? Verilite?

Lastly, do you think it'll get grungy really fast. My husband is worried it will look both tacky and grubby.

Thanks!
