DYI Screened Porch help (not Screen Tight)

We have a old bungalow-type cottage with a nice front porch that we want to turn into a screen porch. These days, it seems everyone recommends Screen Tight (or similar systems) for the DYI homeowner, but I don't like the way they look. I think they look plain, plastic, and cheap; and will kill the curb appeal. I want the house to look old-fashioned and cottage-y, and would like to keep the existing porch rails and columns.

I think that means we have to build it the old-fashioned way. Can anyone point me to a good book, or online guide that will help us get started?

My DH and I screened in our porch this weekend. We used roll screening over 2x2 inch framing. it turned out nice.
