Galvanized nails on fence

We had a fence built and chose galvanized nails because we didn't want streaks eventually going down the fence. The builder used nails that were too long and they stuck thru to the other side. He used a grinder to dull the points, but about 1/8 to 1/4 inch still pokes through. I want to know if the grinding process compromised the galvination and will these nails now streak the boards?

Galvanization is a coating and underneath is an ordinary steel nail. Grind, cut, or otherwise damage the coating and the steel underneath will rust.

I may be off here but I seem to recall that using galvanized nails were the reason for streaks on ceder. Stainless is a better choice, albeit an expensive one.
