Transend has the same ol same ol inside with a plastic wrap around three sides leaving the area in contact with the joists exposed.Possible Problems include the screws causing fracture of the coating durning install,moisture geting in from underneith working on the junk inside causing delamm.

The install instructions have to be followed exactley,perfectley, every time for trex to pay up with a record of 10 years or so for this to happen if they are right or wrong. Including this in your contract with the Deck Builder would make him respond to any install mistakes but with the bottom line of very poor Customer relations track record it hardley matters who complains about what with the trex guy's.

Is TimberTech easy enough to work with that two relatively handy people could install it, or would it be more prudent to go with a contractor?

Also, looking at their Builder Rail, could a person supply square balusters from DecKorator or somewhere and still use Posts and Rails from TimberTech?

TT is about the same as any manmade 5/4 decking. The earthwood series looks good around 15% color fade thats normal as well. My supplier only sells the pregrouved but the clips they sell are one of the best. A person could always face fasten it.

Composite rail is spendy altogether. If you can get the builder boards with out buying the kit it might be better. I use www.deckrailsolutions.com for the alum balusters and make my own conectors. The square ones do look good. I like building rail out of something that at least looks like a 2x4 / 2x6 . J.
