During the storm in Virginia this year water leaked into my basement. I had a handyman look at it who said it was due to no flashing where the deck met the house. He caulked it and all seemed good (except for my ruined basement). He didn't think that putting flashing in would be possible. But, I had another guy tell me that the caulking might not work. He also didn't seem to think that putting flashing in was possible on an existing deck. I looked on line and found an article that said it was possible by taking out the first couple of boards. Is the caulking enough, or should I try contacting someone to install flashing? If installing flashing is the best choice, what type of contactor should I contact? One that specializes in decks or siding or other?
