I thought this forum would be a good place to get information on building a set of stairs. Not for a deck but for a school play. What I am in need of are appropriate dimensions (riser height and tread run) for a set of stairs that will take Cinderella from a 32 inch high stage down to the gym floor. With an 8 inch rise thats 4 treads assuming one level with the stage. Four treads are fine but it woun't look like an elegant ballroom staircase with only four treads unless I extend the treads to something deeper. Is there a rule of thumb that says how deep I can go and to make walking easy? At my first house I made a set of garden steps to fit the slope and the tread were too deep that ones gait was awkward and unnatural. The kids are 6th graders. Thanks for any help you can provide.
