Clear coat turned white?

Posted by CKWhitney (My Page) on

I stained my deck and after waiting for it to cure (a very generous cure time) I put clear coat on top. After about 3 weeks we had our first rain storm and I noticed it was a little white, well 3 months later it is almost completely white. It is a playground deck, so I didn't notice until today when I walked up there (no playing lately since it's cold). It was an outdoor rated clear coat... now I just noticed the original cherry stain was indoor stain (oops) but at the store there was no other stain than this... Is that the reason the clear coat turned white? or is it because I need a marine grade clear coat?

Clear outdoor finish has no uv protection.
Using indoor stain will not work outside.

No telling why it went white, what brand did you use?
