Quote Shock, similiar to sticker shock

Just got a quote for a 304 sqft patio - 10k. Mid price pavers. Apparently it's because our back yard has a slight slope and our yard is fenced - he wants to pull it up and re-install it. Is this normal? Obviously we'll be getting other quotes, just worried that they'll all come back the same!

Quotes for my level 190 sq ft paver patio were running $3,000 to $4,000. Geographical location could also makes a difference due to local labor costs.

Depending on the slope, this could be reasonable. Does the contractor have to build a small retaining wall to hold up the patio at the lower edge? This is where pavers stop being cheap. When doing brick or flagstone on a new concrete slab, the contractor can often make up the elevation difference with a turndown slab, then backfill around the edge and grade it off. With pavers you need to do something to hold in all that base material.
